Timeshare sales soar as Home sales drop 4th October 2007
While US property sales are slowing down, one type of 'real estate' is looking up. In a country with over 4.4 million timeshare owners, timeshares are selling at a record pace this year.
For many shared vacation owners, Florida is timeshare central. Like southern Spain, it has one of the best winter climates anywhere, combined with high quality timeshare properties and excellent resort amenities - just some of the reasons why Florida is hot all year round. And for those seeking a home from home, without the expense of buying a second home, timeshare can be the perfect solution.
Some timeshare companies are experiencing a 25per cent rise in sales, which is impressive in any market. David Siegel, chief executive officer of Central Florida Investments which owns the Westgate Resorts timeshare group, commented: "Timeshares are about vacations, and the real estate market is about homes. People always want vacations and we're booming."
The trend is making its way to Europe. Leading European resort developers Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels have just reported one of their timeshare division's best summer seasons ever, with occupancy levels in Spain and Tenerife reaching a record high. The company has long been an industry pioneer: following the success of its freehold homes division CLC ESTATES, Club La Costa launched its own Yacht Club this year, making the lifestyle of the rich and famous surprisingly affordable - and accessible - to anyone looking for a unique style of holiday at sea.
After its first season in Mallorca, the Yacht Club is planning to increase its fleet, expanding into more exotic waters. This winter members can explore the warm waters of the Red Sea when the new winter season starts on 17th December in the Gulf of Aqaba. It's a lifestyle holiday that seems to appeal both to sailors and non-sailors alike.
Roy Peires, Chairman of Club La Costa Resorts & Hotels said: "We are confident that our fleet of the most luxurious catamarans available and our sailing routes, which will offer cruises around some of the most beautiful yachting destinations in Europe and beyond, will appeal to those looking for that wow factor for their annual vacation."
Timeshare owners are also taking more than one holiday a year, it seems. In addition to their main family holiday, short breaks are an increasingly attractive holiday choice. UK hotels and resorts have reported a surge in bookings this year as members opt for a short but luxurious getaway break that's an easy drive from home.
