Try before you buy 29th October 2007
A 'try before you buy' scheme introduced by a UK property developer, and reported in the Daily Express on line, is not the first.
At Club La Costa they've been selling timeshare this way for some years now, it's called Trial Membership.
And at CLC Estates, the real estate development arm of Club La Costa, inspection visits offer a chance to stay on site at the resort where your new dream home is being built.
Heather Rose, writing for the Express, says: "First there were the empty shell properties giving potential homebuyers an inside view of the building's layout. Then there came the view houses, carpeted and curtained so the would-be buyer could imagine their own belongings in position. Then came the professional styled show homes, which enable home hunters to see, at first glance, the lifestyle that could be theirs when they sign up to purchase."
Now a developer of retirement homes in Scotland is letting would-be purchasers spend a few days in one of its apartments before they make the big decision of whether or not to buy.
Club La Costa, with 22 fully-owned timeshare resorts and more than 50,000 members, has always had total confidence in its products, which is why it offers a Trial Membership package. It enables clients to experience an introductory week and a further five weeks of holidays, if they choose, over a 34-month period, enjoying the diverse destinations, superior standards and services of holiday ownership.
"This gives them a wonderful opportunity to holiday initially at one of our exceptional resorts, enjoying a week's luxury accommodation for up to four in a fully-equipped apartment with fantastic facilities and amenities and something to suit everyone," says Helen Smith, telemarketing manager.
After that, they can enjoy more quality holidays at any of the resorts featured in its Destinations resort directory or via its affiliated international exchange networks with resorts worldwide.*
The popularity of the scheme is clear from the statistics. Close to 5,000 introductory weeks have been booked for 2007 alone. On past showing, over the course of the Trial Membership some 75 per cent will choose to become full members.
Similarly, CLC Estates offers inspection visits to those looking to buy outright one of its on-resort holiday homes. Director Paul Smith says: "You actually stay on site and not at a hotel nearby; that way you can get a real feel for the place, the excellent location, the superb facilities and the undoubted quality of the whole operation. You can also visit fully-furnished freehold apartments and see the high standard which is maintained throughout."**
